Have Household Activities

Definitions

Households are defined as any or all the people who live in a home together. This might be mom, dad, children, extended family members, or friends. Household activities are fun activities that any of the people in the household participates in together, allowing for relationships to grow and fun to be had. God has given you your family through which to encourage, teach, and love each other. Yet, with the pace of your lives, you may sometimes find yourselves not spending time together enjoying these very basic, but essential, aspects of life. Carving out time during your week is essential. During these periods, you spend quality time together having fun, laughing, and growing together as a family, which is core to what God has designed you to be and do.

Scripture:

Deuteronomy 6:4-8
“Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.”

Details:

• Make sure you are having times together as a household. This has to be planned and intentional; it will not accidentally happen. Plan activities everyone will enjoy. This happens best when the whole family gets to participate in planning them. Keep fun as the core value of these times.
  
  
• Keep them short, typically no longer than an hour. Choose activities that allow for conversation and discussion such as board games, crafts, walks, hikes, etc. Make them a regular part of your week’s schedule.
  
  
• Defend and protect the family activity time you have created as much as possible.
