Participate In Southcliff Mission Trips
This
activity is one that has you make a commitment to go on a mission trip
that requires travel out of the state or country. This can be a huge
commitment to God in time, effort, and money and especially overcoming
potential fear. In making this commitment, you place God as a priority
in your life and see what He is up to in the world around you.
Scripture:
Matthew 28: 19-20
"Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age."
Luke 10:2
"He told them, 'The harvest is
plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest,
therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.' ”
Details:
- Be aware of the many opportunities that Southcliff provides for
overseas and domestic mission trips. Get information at the Share
Engagement Center in the church concourse.
- Take some time in prayer to ask God on which trip He is leading you
to go. Pray for Him to equip you mentally, spiritually, and physically
for your upcoming trip.
- Read scripture. Before setting out to help others grow closer to
God, it is vital to remain deeply rooted in your own relationship with
Christ. Seek out scripture that will keep you focused and prepare you
for what God has in store for your trip.
- Learn about the culture and language. It is important to remember
that you will be entering a community that likely has a completely
different culture. There will be unique customs, languages, and food
with which you are unfamiliar. If you are traveling internationally, it
is possible that the group you are serving may not know more than a word
or two of English, Spanish, Chinese, etc, so it is best to know at
least a few common phrases and words in the local dialect and language.
- Have a current passport. Be ready to go on a mission trip at God’s prompting.
- Complete a Spiritual Gifts Inventory to determine your giftedness
and how God can use you in sharing the Good News on mission trips.
- You will most likely be doing a lot of physical activity while on
your mission trip. Whether you are building houses or a church, creating
a well for clean water, serving underprivileged people/groups, or
canvassing neighborhoods, there is sure to be a lot of walking and some
manual labor. It is important to make sure you are able to take on tasks
that are physically demanding if they arise. You will be preparing and
strengthening your body for your mission even if you begin by simply
taking walks around your neighborhood every morning and evening,
